Top 10

Trust me, this will improve your day.

I spent a week this summer as a counselor at a Muscular Dystrophy camp and the impact it had on my life was immense. There were over 40 kids at this beloved camp and they all had a form of the heartbreaking disease. If you aren’t familiar with MD, it is defined by Mayo Clinic as “A group of genetic diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass.” Lots of these children are in wheel chairs before they hit the teenage years and there is currently no cure.

Despite this, every child at this summer camp wore a smile and enjoyed life without showing stress. We may label people as “disabled” but that’s a word that I have began to run away from. These children and their positive attitudes have inspired me to chase happiness with everything I have. Volunteering, if you want to label it as that, has motivated me to write this for you.

Right now, I am asking a favor of you. This is an activity that imrpoved my life and is sure to add value to many aspects of your life. You are going to need a piece of paper, pen or pencil, and that beautiful brain of yours.

Now, write down 10 aspects of life that you are incredibly thankful for. These may be things that you take for granted and don’t normally think of, like your dog wagging its’ tail, but this activity is to help you realize how grand life is. My list looks like this..

  1. Family
  2. Friends (Including my wonderful girlfriend)
  3. Clean water
  4. Access to a healthy diet
  5. Shelter
  6. The smiles that are sent my way
  7. Ability to hear music
  8. Clothing
  9. Many forms of freedom
  10. Coffee

Everyone’s list will differ and that is the beauty of the Top Ten list that I have shown you. Even if you are experiencing tough times right now, create this list and set it by your bed to view each morning. It is so easy to get overwhelmed in our world today and forget the beautiful aspects of life. Feel free to share your TOP10 with me and spread over all forms of social media! I hope this adds value to all of your lives!

Thank you to the MDA campers that motivated me to write this piece and for making the world a better place! Nothing should stop us from smiling and enjoying our time on Earth.
